How to paste a screenshot into ChatGPT
- Open the supported ChatGPT conversation you want to use.
- Choose a capture area that excludes private or unrelated information.
- Capture it with Lumshot. AI Auto Paste detects the workflow and adds the image.
- Confirm the attachment, add your prompt and continue the conversation.

Send a screenshot to ChatGPT with a specific question
A screenshot gives ChatGPT the visible part of a problem. Tell it what you were trying to do, what happened and what answer would help. For an unfamiliar dialog, ask about the message rather than asking it to diagnose an entire application from one image.

Useful screen capture scenarios for ChatGPT
Understand a visible error
Select the error dialog without unrelated windows. Include your app version and the action that triggered it in the prompt. If exact wording matters, extract text from the screenshot and verify it before sending.
Discuss a chart or interface
Capture the chart with its labels, or the interface control you want to understand. Explain the task and ask about the visible information. An image may omit surrounding data, so provide that context separately when needed.
Auto Paste or a manual image attachment?
For an occasional image, a supported paste or upload option in your conversation may be sufficient. AI Auto Paste is useful when screenshots are a repeated part of your work and you want the same capture toolkit for several supported AI apps.
You can also copy, drag or export a reviewed capture and attach it manually. Free includes screenshots and annotations with a watermark; Auto Paste requires Pro.
Choose what you share with AI
The chosen AI service receives the screenshot you send. Capture only what it needs. Lumshot’s Smart Redaction processes detection locally, but you must still review the full image before sharing. For sensitive material, prepare and inspect a capture first, then attach it manually through the clipboard or file workflow.
Questions before you start
Does Lumshot automatically send my prompt?
The documented workflow adds the screenshot to a supported conversation. You add your question and continue the conversation yourself; automatic prompt submission is not promised.
What if the image does not appear?
Check that your Pro license is active and a supported conversation is open. Copy or export the screenshot and attach it manually where supported. If the problem persists, contact support with your operating system, Lumshot version and ChatGPT version.
