AI Auto Paste

Screenshot to Cursor.
Keep the context close.

Use Lumshot to capture a UI problem and add the image to a supported Cursor conversation. Explain the expected behavior alongside the screenshot so your coding assistant has a clear visual reference.

Available on Windows 10 (64-bit) or later and macOS 12 or later. AI Auto Paste is a Pro feature; Linux is in development.

How to paste a screenshot into Cursor

  1. Open the supported Cursor conversation you want to use.
  2. Choose a capture area that excludes private or unrelated information.
  3. Capture it with Lumshot. AI Auto Paste detects the workflow and adds the image.
  4. Confirm the attachment, add your prompt and continue the conversation.

Read the AI Auto Paste setup guide for the shared workflow and shortcut guidance. Focus behavior and supported app versions are not fully specified; check the result in your particular conversation.

Visual debugging with Cursor

A screenshot helps when a problem is easier to see than describe: an overlapping button, inconsistent spacing or an unexpected empty state. Capture the affected region and explain the action that produced it. Include the viewport size and relevant source files in Cursor yourself.

Lumshot supplies the image. It does not read your repository, generate code or automatically fix the bug. Cursor’s response depends on the context you provide and its own capabilities.

Two useful screenshots for an AI coding workflow

A responsive layout that breaks

Capture the narrow layout, describe what should remain aligned and ask which component or style needs investigation. If you have a reference design, attach it separately and explain the difference.

An error dialog with important text

Capture the dialog for visual context, then use screenshot OCR to copy the exact error message. Check punctuation and identifiers before pasting them into Cursor; the screenshot alone cannot supply an unavailable stack trace.

Move a confirmed UI bug into your team’s work

After checking the proposed change, document the original symptom and reproduction steps. Use arrows and screenshot markup to point out the affected control, or create a Jira issue from the screenshot when it needs team review. The developer workflow page connects capture, OCR and reporting.

Choose what you share with AI

The chosen AI service receives the screenshot you send. Capture only what it needs. Lumshot’s Smart Redaction processes detection locally, but you must still review the full image before sharing. For sensitive material, prepare and inspect a capture first, then attach it manually through the clipboard or file workflow.

Questions before you start

Is this the same as pasting an image into a terminal?

This page covers supported Cursor conversations. Terminal-based coding tools may handle files and clipboard images differently; their compatibility is not established by Lumshot’s published guide.

What if the image does not appear?

Check that your Pro license is active and a supported conversation is open. Copy or export the screenshot and attach it manually where supported. If the problem persists, contact support with your operating system, Lumshot version and Cursor version.
